Many adult children are called upon to help manage their parents’ finances; a task fraught with challenges. Becoming a financial caregiver can be overwhelming, and many adult children feel that they are lost at sea, and have no one they can turn to for help.

The truth is, many families go through the same situation, and having an experienced daily money manager as a guide can save a lot of time and stress.

Financial Caregiver Action Plans are designed to empower adult children with knowledge, strategies, and resources that will help them manage their parents’ money.

What is a Financial Caregiver Action Plan?

Financial Caregiver Action Plans are one-on-one conversations between you, and Everyday Money Management founder Leah Nichaman, designed to help you assume the role of a financial caregiver.

You’ll have the opportunity to talk through your specific challenges and receive input on tools, strategies, and resources that could help in your specific situation.

The package gives you two hours of Leah’s time for $299.

You can divide up your two hours in any way you like, such as:

  • Talk for an hour and then ask Leah to do some research or put together a list of resources for you.

  • Opt for four 30-minute conversations spaced out over time, to let you try different strategies and discuss progress.

Who Can Benefit From this Service?

  • Those who have noticed some changes in their parents’ behaviors and feel they are beginning to need help, but are unsure how to get their parents to accept help.

  • Those who have started to get involved with managing their parents’ money, but are struggling with the changing relationship.

  • Those trying to walk the line between respecting their parents’ independence and being realistic about their need to stay safe and protect their assets.

  • Those who have begun financial caregiving and are coming up against obstacles at banks, insurance companies, and other organizations.

  • Those who are feeling overwhelmed by the demands of managing their parents’ financial lives.

What Type of Problems Can People Bring Up?

These sessions are meant to help adult children through their unique situation without judgement. So there’s nothing too small or too personal to ask.

Nothing’s off the table. Whatever your feelings or frustrations, the strategy sessions are designed to help you solve the challenges you’re facing in managing your parents’ finances.

Why Should Someone Use this Service Instead of Doing Research Online?

There’s a lot of good information available on the internet, and doing research is a great idea, but if you don’t know what to look for, you may not get a complete answer.

After spending 15 years as a daily money manager, Leah has a wealth of knowledge and can provide insight on what you need to pay attention to, and how to gain a full financial picture.

It’s also worth mentioning that things that work for some families, don’t work for others. Leah can suggest different strategies based on your specific situation, and what you’ve already tried.

HOW DO I GET STARTED?

Start by scheduling your initial conversation with Leah.

In order to confirm your appointment, you’ll be asked to provide a credit card to pay $299 for the package.

Once confirmed, we’ll send you our Roadmap For Financial Caregiving, which is an outline of things to be aware of related to your parents’ financial life. Having this guide ahead of time may help you organize your thoughts and prepare for your initial strategy session.

Your meeting will take place over Zoom, and you’ll have the choice to keep it as a one-on-one session or ask others involved in your parents’ care to join you (e.g. spouses or siblings).

At the close of the meeting, you and Leah will decide the next steps, such as scheduling a follow-up discussion or asking Leah to gather some resources for you.
